COVID-19 Announcement
At Michigan City Animal Hospital the health and safety of our clients, patients and staff are our first priority. We want to share information with you about how we continue to operate safely and effectively. Though we have always had strict sanitizing guidelines, we have implemented additional cleaning practices to reduce risk. We are also avoiding any extra contact, so please don’t be offended if we don’t shake your hand.
We Have Continued and Improved Upon Our High Standard of Cleanliness
- Sanitizing all high touch surfaces (door handles, counters) with medical grade disinfectant multiple times a day
- Conducting surface disinfection of all the exam rooms once patient leaves the space
- Our doctors and staff wash their hands before and after touch every animal
- Our staff is providing immunity supported supplements
- We encourage sick employees to stay home. Personnel who develop respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) will be instructed not to report to work.
We are also Asking Our Clients to Please Reschedule Your Appointment if:
- You have recently been ill or currently have a fever and/or new onset of cough or difficulty breathing
- You have been to a COVID-19 impacted area (Italy, Iran, China, South Korea) in the past 14 days
- You have been in close contact with a confirmed or probably case of COVID-19
- You have been in close contact with a person with acute respiratory illness

We Are Offering Modified Appointment Options
Curbside Service
Pull into a parking spot and give us a call. We’ll can bring any medication or food to out to your car or collect your pet for a drop off appointment. We will streamline this process in coming days/weeks with designated parking spots and signs.
Telemedicine or Virtual Exams
Typically used for after-hours urgent care, our doctors will now also be taking telemedicine calls during the day to provide care for you and your pets even if you can’t make it into the office.

How Will This Affect Pets?
To date, no animals in the United States have tested positive for this virus. Evidence shows that pets can harbor the virus in their mouth and nose. While dogs have not become clinically sick to date, and it is not expected that they are at risk for becoming sick, this means that they can transmit it to other people. This means that if you are sick, you should limit snuggles with your dog to prevent them from holding virus on them, and you should keep your dog at home to prevent the possibility that he will spread the virus to others.
