Expanding Approaches

At Michigan City Animal Hospital we are always looking for new or better ways to help your pets. These are some treatment options that can reduce, supplement, or replace current medications, giving additional benefits.

We have seen these treatments be successful and give our patients improvement when used as a part of the overall approach. These include acupuncture, CBD oils, laser therapy and ozone therapy.

Acupuncture

Having been around for over 4000 years, acupuncture points (concentration of mast cell, nerve endings, and high blood supply) can be identified and confirmed with electronic meters. At our hospital, Dr. Bailey is certified in acupuncture and herbal remedies. We have seen many great results in our practice when pets have arthritic issues and pain medications by themselves are just not getting to every area and we need to do more. This is a very noninvasive way to help your pet feel better.

Most of the time when your pet is in for acupuncture, they will start to relax once the tiny needles are placed and starting to take effect. You will be able to be present with your pet the entire time to keep them relaxed and observe the effect it has on them. Acupuncture helps by improving the blood flow which increases oxygenation of the tissues. Another great thing about acupuncture is there is no systemic side effects, so it is particularly helpful for dogs in poor health.

Medical Grade CBD Oil

Here at Michigan City Animal Hospital we offer top of the line CBD oil. Our doctors have done extensive research to be sure we are offering you the best/most cost effective product we can get for your pet. The reason we approve this product is because it is water soluble, the absorption rate is much higher which translates into a lower dose needed to be administered (94% bioavailability). This product has 0% THC which means no psychoactive compounds. With some flavored CBD oil, you need to watch out for xylitol with is toxic to dogs; our product does not contain this.

Medical Therapy Laser

Here at Michigan City Animal Hospital we have a grade 4 therapy laser. Found in all professional sports locker rooms and used on athletes, laser therapy helps by relieving pain, reducing swelling and speeding up the healing time. We are very excited to help you improve your pets comfort and healing process. Laser therapy is a form of light therapy that helps to regulate inflammation, and promotes your pet’s tissue to regenerate. There are no negative side affects to this treatment and no way to over treat your pet. We provide a round of laser therapy after all surgeries and dental extractions to jump start up the healing process.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to use something very natural and sustainable that can reduce and possibly prevent the overuse of antibiotics and drugs. Ozone Therapy is the use of medical grade ozone (a highly reactive form of pure oxygen) to create a curative response in the body, so it can heal itself. Ozone also inactivates bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast and protozoa. Ozone therapy disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell, disrupts the reproductive cycle and damages the viral capsid in viruses and it inhibits cell growth in fungi.

Do any of these options sound like something that you would like more information on? Please contact us so we can set you up with an appointment with one of our doctors to do a full evaluation on your pet to see if these would be something for you. We would be so happy to meet you and your pet!
