Thank You to our Local Police
Here at Michigan City Animal Hospital we strive to help our community anyway possible especially when it comes to service animals. The Michigan City Police Department recently put out a press release asking for community help. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the handler for K9 Officer Axel is unable to continue being his handler. A new handler and Axel needed to be paired and trained together. Total training cost was over $8000.
Therefore, we raised and donated $1,500 to our police department so they can train a new handler for Axel for this much needed position. We encourage our clients and community to donate so we can get Axel back in the squad car!
Update from the Michigan City Police Department: “MCPD wants to welcome Officer Steve Wiegel and K9 Axel back to MCPD, as they have successfully completed their training and certification of the North American Police Work Dog Association! They began their journey on August 31st, and for the past 2 weeks have undergone extensive training and certification with Michael McHenry and his amazing staff at FMK9 in Berrien Center, Michigan.”
Also this week, we said “thank you” to our local police department by providing them a catered lunch.
